The library is currently hiring a full time Teen/Adult/Technology position.  Interviews will begin June 15 and continue until the position is filled.  A City of Monticello Job Application must be submitted to the library, you may also submit a resume. 

Teen/Adult Services/Technology

Supervision:  Works under the supervision of the Library Director

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversees the library website and social media presence and produces monthly e-newsletter with assistance from other library staff as needed.
  • Develops and recommends policy and procedures for use of computers and trains staff on such procedures
  • Works closely with library director & technical service provider for proper operation of computers
  • Assists patrons on public computer equipment and personal devices.
  • Assists and participates in the upgrading and maintenance of library database systems
  • Oversees Interlibrary loan requests and multiple copy collection.
  • Recommends material for acquisition and withdrawal from the adult & teen print and non-print collections as assigned
  • Assists and instructs patrons in using library services, equipment and facilities
  • Plans, organizes and supervises programs for adults adults and teens and assists with youth programming as needed Creates displays to promote the use of library resources
  • Attends job-related conferences, workshops and meetings
  • Works at the service desk as needed (see Library Clerk Job Description)

Essential Functions:  

  • Performs duties included in Library Clerk Job Description
  • Position requires ability to communicate orally and in writing
  • Organizes attractive book displays
  • Promote and plan programs for adults & teens.  
  • Train library users to search for information by following an appropriate inquiry process using books and/or electronic resources
  • Prepares publicity for all teen & adult programming including press releases to local media outlets  Creates and distributes flyers within the library and the community.  Submits activities to schools for inclusion in their newsletters.
  • Provides readers advisory and acts as liaison with schools and homeschoolers.
  • Performs duties in other library areas and participates in library special projects as needed or as requested by the Director.

Job Requirements

  • Knowledge: This position requires knowledge of library practices, procedures and techniques; reading programs and activities; of the laws, regulations and departmental policies pertaining to library services.
  • Skills: Position requires skills in dealing with the public, providing activities appropriate to age and in the use of computers and library equipment
  • Perform professional duties requiring adherence to standards of accuracy, timeliness, tact and confidentiality
  • Requires working varied work schedule including some evenings and some Saturdays
  • Staffs circulation desk when needed, performing routine library clerical tasks associated with the circulation desk (See Library Clerk Job Description)
  • Ability to accurately maintain library filing systems; ability to orally communicate effectively; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patrons and staff; pleasant personality; Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Graduation from high school or GED with a literacy level commensurate with this level of education, experience working with the public and technology.
  • Valid state driver’s license or ability to obtain one.

Desired Qualifications

  • College degree, previous library experience or customer service experience

Starting wage:  $13/hour.
