Board Meeting Minutes, October 8, 2019
Board Members in Attendance: President Kim Brooks, Joey Ellison, Ed Moreano, Elizabeth Morgan, Ellen Strittmatter, Don Tapken

Meeting called to order

Approval of Amended Agenda: Moved by Elizabeth; seconded by Don; unanimously approved
Public Comment: Board Member Joey is a member of a Parent Advisory Committee which is discussing the future use of the Middle School property. He proposed that the Library might be interested in the property’s future.
- Director Michelle reported that the number of check-outs is on the rise and that Bridges is going strong.
-She attended the Iowa/Nebraska Library Conference in Omaha. The State Library of Iowa has a year contract for a van to deliver library books on loan. This is will eliminate mailing the books.
-There is a leak in the geo-thermal system which needs to be investigated.
-Library Rearrangement: It was moved by Elizabeth and seconded by Ed to apply for a Jones County Community Foundation Grant. The Board unanimously approved. The grant would help with the cost of new furniture: tables and chairs to replace the wooden tables and worn chairs. Director Michelle presented examples of interlocking tables as well as adjustable height tables for the Children’s area. New chairs are needed for program seating. The Children’s area would move to the center of the library. Additional shelving would be built to store games etc.
The grant application would be for approximately $16,000. The Library is responsible for 25% of the grant money which comes from the General Improvement Fund.
-Director Michelle will contact possible trustee candidates from rural Monticello to be a Library Board member.
-Policies: The following policies were moved by Ellen, seconded by Joey, and unanimously approved: a) Patron Registration Policy, b) Staff Training and Conferences, c) Volunteers,
d) Laptop Usage, and e) Laptop/Tablet Loan.
-Newspapers: The Library, as well as The Express, has many old copies of the newspaper. The Express has all the newspapers in bound books. The Library has several missing years. The Library has “The Express” issues digitized. Director Michelle will contact City Administrator Doug Herman regarding the disposal of the paper newspapers.
